The American Thoracic Society invites you to sign up to participate in our community outreach volunteer activities. While ATS has always given back to the cities that host our Annual Meeting, we are now working to formalize these efforts and offer our members more opportunities to make a direct impact through meaningful volunteer opportunities.
Last year, we partnered with a local nonprofit youth organization, giving young people the opportunity to interact with ATS leadership in an inspiring meet and greet activity. We also collaborated with our local ATS Chapter, California Thoracic Society, to provide health awareness programming at the local YMCA in San Fransico. Both events were highly successful and very well received.
This year will be no exception. We are excited to offer our members and attendees the opportunity to participate in another impactful community project in Orlando, Florida.
Our first event, Breaking Barriers to the Medical World, is a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. The second opportunity is a hands-on volunteer event supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs as they prepare for their annual Gala celebration called “Celebrate the Children.”
About Our Community Partner:
Since 1944, over 130,000 children have walked through the Blue Doors of Central Florida Boys & Girls Clubs. Their alumni include leaders like Jerry Demings and David “Bumpy” Hughes, as well as everyday heroes like Ciara Banks-Mapps and Ruford Shepherd. All proudly say: “My Great Future Started at Boys & Girls Clubs.”
Both activities are important expressions of our commitment to service, offering us opportunities to grow, learn, and support causes that help everyone breathe easier, while strengthening the organizations that rely on us to help create meaningful impact for their members.
Although we would love everyone to participate, the volunteer capacity for these events is limited. If spots fill up, we still encourage you to sign up so we know you’re interested and can reach out to you for future opportunities.
Thank you for helping us continue this meaningful tradition of community engagement.
