Over 20 Years of Supporting Early Career Investigators

The American Thoracic Society established the Research Program in 2004 to support early-career investigators during the critical transition to independent research careers. Since then, the ATS Research Program has supported more than 400 projects led by investigators in the U.S. and abroad. These studies have resulted in significant advances in respiratory health medicine, including a better understanding of lung diseases, stem cell applications, pulmonary fibrosis therapeutics, acute lung injury insights, and sleep hygiene.

In 2025, the Scientific Grant Review Committee selected 16 promising researchers to receive a combined total of over $1.2M in grants.
