Optimizing Sleep Apnea Diagnosis in Primary Care

ATS received an award from Eli Lilly and Company for an 18-month project to identify strategies to close Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) care gaps via engaging with Primary Care at health systems across the United States.

For this project, ATS is convening four health-system teams with demonstrated expertise in sleep medicine and QI, each of whom has completed foundational work to improve primary care engagement in OSA care:

•    West Virginia University (WVU)
•    VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS)
•    San Francisco Health Network/University of California San Francisco (SFHN/UCSF)
•    Mount Sinai Health System

The project will apply a quality improvement approach to develop site-tailored processes and programs that integrate OSA screening and referral into routine primary care workflows.

Our overall goal is to close the care gap in OSA screening and diagnosis by engaging primary care to increase appropriate screening, referrals, confirmed diagnosis, and pathways to timely treatment.
