Improving Accurate Diagnosis of Bronchiectasis and Care Implementation

ATS has received an award from Insmed Inc. for a three-year project to improve bronchiectasis diagnosis and care implementation.

A Multi-Site Study with National Reach
The ATS, working with seven academic medical systems across the country, will conduct a large-scale electronic health record (EHR) inquiry to identify whether patients with a diagnosis of COPD or asthma also have bronchiectasis or whether they were misdiagnosed altogether and have bronchiectasis as the underlying condition. The study will examine diagnostic imaging practices, potential patterns of misdiagnosis, and potential disparities in access to specialty care – with a particular focus on underserved and diverse communities.

In parallel, this initiative will establish prospective programs with an aim to improve earlier diagnosis and guideline-directed care, and will evaluate outcomes across this combined, representative patient population.

The seven health system partners are:
•    New York Langone/Bellevue
•    Oregon Health and Science University
•    University of California San Francisco
•    University of Colorado
•    West Virginia University
•    University of Illinois Chicago
