ATS Early Career Investigator Award in Pulmonary Vascular Disease

The ATS Early Career Investigator Award in Pulmonary Vascular Disease, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, provides one-year mentored grants of up to $100,000 for rising researchers in the United States and Canada studying pulmonary hypertension. The goal is to advance the understanding of pulmonary vascular pathobiology, improve medical care and enhance patients’ lives. Investigators may be working in basic, translational or clinical research.

Brief Program History

Actelion Pharmaceuticals US, Inc. (a Janssen pharmaceutical company of Johnson & Johnson), launched the program in 2005 as ENTELLIGENCE. Since then, more than $7M has been awarded to 91 researchers in the United States and Canada.

In late 2021, ENTELLIGENCE—now renamed the ATS Early Career Investigator Award in Pulmonary Vascular Disease—came to the ATS under the auspices of the Pulmonary Circulation Assembly. In 2025 the ATS Early Career Investigator Award in Pulmonary Vascular Disease was folded into the ATS Research Program, providing greater visibility and impact across the organization and beyond.
