American Thoracic Society Recognized by San Diego Tourism Authority

ATS was thanked for its commitment to promoting and supporting diverse local businesses and investing in the environment by planting trees.

Sept. 26, 2024 – New York, NY – The American Thoracic Society was recognized by the San Diego Tourism Authority following the ATS 2024 International Conference for its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Ahead of the conference, ATS took part in several initiatives to promote local businesses as well as a tree planting ceremony, highlighting the role trees play in air quality. Theresa Cunningham, director of DEI & Community Engagement, San Diego Tourism Authority, wrote:

“The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) was honored to participate in the tree planting along the San Diego Bay waterfront, a green initiative spearheaded by ATS and partners ahead of the ATS 2024 International Conference. These trees are well-suited for the local environment, will help improve air quality, and can provide shade from the sun as they grow.”

“In addition to creating a lasting legacy through tree donations, ATS partnered with SDTA's flagship Tourism Accelerator program to support and promote diverse local businesses and communities in San Diego, using both web and email campaigns for free advertising before the convention. Additionally, ATS created a ‘Community Corner’ in their expo hall, featuring comfortable seating and digital promotion to further highlight these diverse businesses to attendees.

“Overall, ATS 2024 provided significant economic benefits for San Diego, generating an estimated regional impact exceeding $58 million. We thank ATS for supporting local communities and for helping the world to breathe!”
