Meet the 2026 Awardee: Alison G. Lee, MD, MS, ATSF

Alison G. Lee, MD, MS, ATSF is an Associate Professor of Medicine with Tenure in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine and Vice Chair of Research and Faculty Affairs in the Arnhold Institute for Global Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Lee is an NIH-funded physician-scientist with transdisciplinary expertise in environmental health, with a focus on air pollution and climate-related exposures. Dr. Lee’s research considers how environmental exposures during critical windows of exposure program chronic disease risk over the life course. Dr. Lee is committed to generating policy-relevant data and working in partnership with community advocacy groups and leaders and governmental agencies to co-develop research priorities and public health solutions. In addition, Dr. Lee advocates for more health-protective environmental policy both in the United States and abroad, for example through roles as Chair of the American Thoracic Society’s Environmental Health Policy Committee and Council Member of the Early Childhood Scientific Council on Equity and the Environment at the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University.
Dr. Lee earned an ScB in biology from Brown University, an MD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and an MS in epidemiology from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Dr. Lee completed her residency in internal medicine at the New York University Hospitals and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Columbia Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

This is award is given to a primary EOPH member with exemplary commitment to EOPH (and ATS), to advancing the mission of the assembly, and with demonstrated significant and sustained contributions to the assembly in the areas of research, improving public health, teaching, mentoring, and/or service (may include leadership). Individuals eligible for consideration at the associate professor level (or equivalent), within <5 years of full Professor, or within 10-20 years from first faculty/investigator appointment. Nominations of diverse candidates (by gender, race/ethnicity, country, area of focus and primary occupation) are highly encouraged.
Criteria
- Associate professor (or equivalent), within <5 years of full Professor, or within 10-20 years from first faculty/investigator appointment
- EOPH Assembly Member (primary)
- Exemplary commitment to EOPH and ATS and to advancing the mission of the EOPH assembly
- Significant and sustained contributions to the assembly in the areas of research, improving public health, teaching, mentoring, and/or service (may incl- leadership)
Note: Award nominations will be carried over for 3 years and the Planning Committee may choose to move nominees to a different award category for optimal review.
