
Uma Maheswari Krishnaswamy, MD, to Receive the 2025 Philip Hopewell Prize for Global Respiratory Health Research
Dr. Krishnaswamy will be formally recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field at the ATS 2025 International Conference in San Francisco.
NEW YORK, NY (May 9, 2025) -- The American Thoracic Society is proud to announce that Uma Maheswari Krishnaswamy, MD, will be presented with ATS’s Philip Hopewell Prize for Global Respiratory Health Research for her exemplary achievements in respiratory health based on her work at St. John’s Medical College in Bengaluru, India.
The Philip Hopewell Prize for Global Respiratory Health Research recognizes and celebrates mid-career investigators in low- and middle-income countries who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to clinical and research excellence in respiratory health.

“I am honored and excited to receive the Philip Hopewell Prize 2025, which serves as a validation of my research in chronic respiratory diseases and sleep disordered breathing,” Dr. Krishnaswamy said. “The triple benefits of sponsored ATS conference attendance, an educational development fund and the opportunity to publish in the ATS journals will enable networking with global pulmonary experts and create collaborative research opportunities. I hope to make full use of the unique offerings of this award to further research in my areas of interest as well as to continue striving towards promoting global respiratory health.”
Dr. Krishnaswamy and other awardees will be recognized at the Plenary Session on Tuesday, May 20.
