Susan Redline, MD, MPH, to Receive a 2025 American Thoracic Society Respiratory Health Award
Dr. Redline will be formally recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field at the ATS 2025 International Conference in San Francisco.
NEW YORK, NY (May 9, 2025) -- The American Thoracic Society is proud to announce that Susan Redline, MD, MPH, will receive a 2025 ATS Respiratory Health Award. Dr. Redline will be presented with ATS’s Edward Livingston Trudeau Medal for her exemplary achievements in respiratory health based on her work at Harvard Medical School, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The Trudeau Medal is the highest honor bestowed by the ATS and is given in honor of Edward Livingston Trudeau, a founder and the first president of the American Lung Association.
All award recipients will be recognized for their contributions and achievements in pulmonary disease, critical care, and sleep health at the upcoming ATS 2025 International Conference to be held May 16-21 in San Francisco. The awards represent outstanding respiratory health contributions through various means, from research and diagnosis to education and advocacy.
"This year's ATS Respiratory Health Awards recipients embody excellence in science and clinical care," said ATS President Irina Petrache, MD, ATSF. "We extend our warmest congratulations to these outstanding individuals. Their work has made a meaningful difference in advancing respiratory health around the world, and we are deeply appreciative of their contributions."

The Edward Livingston Trudeau Medal recognizes and celebrates an individual who has made substantial contributions to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of lung disease, critical illness, or sleep disorders through leadership in research, education or clinical care, as well as exemplary professionalism, collegiality and citizenship in the ATS community.
"I am profoundly thankful to the ATS and to my colleagues for this wonderful honor, and for creating a truly collaborative community of respiratory, sleep, and public health scientists and clinicians dedicated to advancing sleep health as a core mission of the ATS as well as a global health prerogative," Dr. Redline said. "I am deeply grateful for the innumerable opportunities I have had to work with, and befriend, so many brilliant and passionate people, including patient partners, who have inspired me to give as much as I could to our community through the creation of resources and mentoring, who have challenged me to seek to continually do better science, and who have made our journey both rewarding and fun. At this particular moment in time, I also recognize how incredibly fortunate I was to have lived and worked in an era with a strong National Institutes of Health that established the National Center for Sleep Disorders- institutions that catalyzed a new era of sleep research. My fervent hope is that through our resilience and mutual support our research community will continue to thrive, ask important questions, and identify better ways to prevent and treat sleep disorders at both the population and individual levels."
Register now to attend ATS 2025 and recognize this year’s outstanding recipients.
