
Susan Jacobs, RN, MS, to Receive a 2025 American Thoracic Society Respiratory Health Award
Ms. Jacobs will be formally recognized with the Public Service Award for her outstanding contributions to the field at the ATS 2025 International Conference in San Francisco.
NEW YORK, NY (May 9, 2025) -- The American Thoracic Society is proud to announce that Susan Jacobs, RN, MS, will receive a 2025 ATS Respiratory Health Award. Ms. Jacobs will be presented with ATS’s Public Service Award for her exemplary achievements in respiratory health based on her work at Stanford Medicine.
All award recipients will be recognized for their contributions and achievements in pulmonary disease, critical care, and sleep health at the upcoming ATS 2025 International Conference to be held May 16-21 in San Francisco. The awards represent outstanding respiratory health contributions through various means, from research and diagnosis to education and advocacy.
"This year's ATS Respiratory Health Awards recipients embody excellence in science and clinical care," said ATS President Irina Petrache, MD, ATSF. "We extend our warmest congratulations to these outstanding individuals. Their work has made a meaningful difference in advancing respiratory health around the world, and we are deeply appreciative of their contributions."

Based in Palo Alto, Calif, Ms. Jacobs will receive the Public Service Award recognizing and celebrating an individual who has made substantial contributions to public and population health equity related to, for example, improvement of air quality, eradication of tobacco usage, prevention of lung disease, advocacy, improved management of communicable respiratory diseases, or improvement in the ethical delivery, and access to health care in areas related to lung diseases, sleep health, or critical care.
"I am truly honored to receive the ATS Public Service Award, which reflects not only my own efforts to improve oxygen services for patients, but also the dedication of so many others over the past decade," Ms. Jacobs said. "Our collective advocacy, legislative and research work to support patients who rely on supplemental oxygen is vital, as we strive to ease their challenges and help them live fulfilling lives, especially outside of the home. This recognition energizes me to continue rallying others to join this crucial cause, ensuring we make a lasting impact for our patients and their families."
