
Peter Chen, MD, to Receive a 2025 Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments
Dr. Chen will be formally recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field at the ATS 2025 International Conference in San Francisco.
NEW YORK, NY (May 9, 2025) -- The American Thoracic Society is proud to announce that Peter Chen, MD, the Medallion Chair in Molecular Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, will receive the Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments. This ATS Respiratory Health Award recognizes Dr. Chen’s exemplary achievements in respiratory health based on his work at Cedars-Sinai.
All Respiratory Health Award recipients will be recognized for their contributions and achievements in pulmonary disease, critical care, and sleep health at the upcoming ATS 2025 International Conference to be held May 16-21 in San Francisco. The awards represent outstanding respiratory health contributions through various means, from research and diagnosis to education and advocacy.

The Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments recognizes and celebrates an individual who has made substantial contributions in basic or clinical arenas to enhance the understanding, prevention and treatment of respiratory disease, critical illness, or sleep disorders and recognizes exemplary professionalism, collegiality and citizenship through mentorship and scientific involvement in the ATS community.

“Receiving the Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments is both an incredible honor and a deeply humbling experience, especially as I have long admired so many of the past recipients,” said Dr. Chen. “I would be remiss not to acknowledge the invaluable support of my mentors, the dedication of my current and former trainees, and the contributions of my collaborators, all of whom have played a vital role in my journey. I look forward to building on the knowledge we have collectively gained over the years to further advance our understanding of how respiratory viruses promote acute and chronic lung diseases.”
