Juan C. Celedón, MD, DrPH, ATSF, to Deliver the 2025 J. Burns Amberson Lecture
Dr. Celedón will be formally recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field at the ATS 2025 International Conference in San Francisco.
NEW YORK, NY (May 8, 2025) -- The American Thoracic Society is proud to announce that Juan C. Celedón, MD, DrPH, ATSF, was selected as the 2025 J. Burns Amberson Lecturer for his exemplary achievements in respiratory health, based on his work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
All recipients of Respiratory Health Awards will be recognized for their contributions and achievements in pulmonary disease, critical care, and sleep health at the upcoming ATS 2025 International Conference to be held May 16-21 in San Francisco. The awards represent outstanding respiratory health contributions through various means, from research and diagnosis to education and advocacy.

Their work has made a meaningful difference in advancing respiratory health around the world, and we are deeply appreciative of their contributions."

Based in Pittsburgh, Dr. Celedón will be the J. Burns Amberson Lecturer, which recognizes major contributions to clinical or basic research that have advanced our fundamental understanding of the basic, translational, or clinical approaches to respiratory disease, critical illness, or sleep disorders. This award also recognizes exemplary professionalism, collegiality and citizenship through mentorship and leadership in the ATS community. The Lecture is given in honor of James Burns Amberson, an international authority on chest disease and tuberculosis.

Burns Amberson Lecture this year,” said Dr. Celedón. “I humbly receive this recognition on behalf of those who made my work possible and of all investigators trying to ensure that research studies benefit all people at risk for or affected with respiratory diseases. This recognition further motivates me to try to make a difference in the lives of patients with asthma through research, clinical care, advocacy, and mentoring of the next generation."
