American Thoracic Society Supports EPA Action to Reduce Harmful Air Pollution from Vehicles

NEW YORK, NY (Dec. 18, 2024) Regarding the US EPA’s decision to permit California to set stronger limits on emissions from cars, SUVs and trucks, the American Thoracic Society (ATS) President Irina Petrache, MD, ATSF said, "Zero emission vehicles are already driving across every state in America, reducing air pollution from vehicles which harm our health,” she said. “The ATS supports President Biden’s decision using the Clean Air Act to grant California authority to phase out the sale of new gas-powered cars and trucks by 2035. The waiver will allow California, and any other state interested in adopting the California policy, to make significant reductions in vehicle tailpipe and greenhouse gas emissions. The health of all Americans and of the Earth will benefit from this decision."
