Description

Our mid-career members in the US and across the globe are a pillar of innovation, mentorship, and growth for the respiratory science community. This award recognizes mid-career RCMB Assembly members who have emerged as national or international leaders in their field. Honorees are distinguished by outstanding scientific contributions in respiratory cell and molecular biology, mentoring accomplishments, and exemplary commitment of service in RCMB or ATS. This award honors the dedication, intellectual curiosity, service to our community, and scientific impact of our mid-career members in their contributions to ATS, the scientific community, and our patients. 

Eligible individuals will be US or international RCMB members at the Associate Professor level or equivalent rank. Nominations of International diverse candidates are highly encouraged. There is one award delivered per year. Awardees will be presented with a framed certificate at the ATS International conference.

Criteria

  • US and International members welcome and eligible. International applications are highly encouraged.

  • Must be an RCMB Assembly primary member

  • Must be at the academic Associate Professor level or at an equivalent rank in a non-academic institution

  • At least 3 years apart from being a Carol Basbaum Award recipient

  • Previous awardees are not eligible for the same award

  • Must not have received a similar midcareer award from another ATS Assembly

  • The nomination package must include a 1-2 page nomination letter from 3-5 nominators, including at least one member of the Assembly, describing the candidate’s scientific, mentoring, and Assembly contributions (detailed below) and why the award is appropriate.

  • Able to attend the ATS International Conference in person

Guidelines for Submitting a Nomination

  • Nominee’s CV

  • One nomination letter with signatures of 3-5 supporters who attest to the impact of the nominee on the RCMB mission. This letter including at least one member of the Assembly, describing the candidate’s scientific, mentoring, and Assembly contributions (detailed below) and why the award is appropriate 
     

Nomination Letter should address each of the following criteria:

  • Scientific Achievement

  • Mentoring

  • Leadership potential

  • Involvement with ATS and RCMB Assembly, and service in other international scientific societies (e.g.; ERS)

Scoring metric weight

  • 3x - Scientific Contributions/Products
  • 1x - Teaching/Mentoring/Educational Contributions
  • 1x - Participation in Assembly and ATS Activities (administrative, committees, workshops etc.)
  • 1x - Overall impact/impression of dossier submitted for award application
