Meet the 2025 Winner: Javier Perez-Garcia, PhD

Javier Perez-Garcia is a postdoctoral scholar at the Cardenas Lab in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University. He holds a B.Sc. in Pharmacy (2019) and Ph.D. in Health Sciences (2023), both awarded by the Extraordinary and Excellence Awards for Degrees in Health Sciences, from the University of La Laguna (Spain). His research focuses on integrating multi-omic data (e.g., genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and microbiome) to identify potential biomarkers of treatment response for complex respiratory diseases, such as asthma, with a special emphasis on genetically diverse populations. During his PhD, he conducted multiple association studies at a genomic scale and integrated multi-omics data through machine learning and quantitative trait locus analyses, providing novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator drugs in asthma. In his postdoctoral stage, he is interested in broadening the scope of his research to study gene-environment interactions and biological aging on respiratory diseases through omic approaches.
