Navigating NHLBI as an Early-Career Investigator: Funding Opportunities and Engaging with Program Officers

This session will feature NHLBI leadership, including the Division of lung diseases Director Gustavo Matute-Bello, MD, Roya Kalantari, PhD, and Marisol Espinoza-Pintucci, PhD, who will highlight early-career funding and training pathways and clarify what each opportunity is designed to support. Speakers will also share actionable strategies for how early-career investigators can interact with NHLBI throughout the application process—including how to prepare for a conversation with a Program Officer, what questions are most helpful to bring forward, and how NHLBI can support applicants with guidance on fit, scope, and next steps.
