Mechanical Ventilation in Patients with ILD: Before, During, and After is a case-based webinar focused on the unique challenges and decision-making surrounding mechanical ventilation in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Elias N. Baedorf Kassis, MD, of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, and Sonye Danoff, MD, PhD, Associate Director of the Johns Hopkins Myositis Center, will examine how the diversity of ILD diagnoses and disease trajectories influences the decision to initiate, manage, and discontinue ventilatory support. The discussion will distinguish acute exacerbations of ILD from rapidly progressive ILD; address prognosis, goals-of-care communication, and ICU-specific concerns; and use clinical scenarios—including acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, connective tissue disease–associated ILD, and rapidly progressive ILD—to illustrate a practical, patient-centered approach to mechanical ventilation before, during, and after critical illness.
