Clinical trial

About

The International Conference Committee (ICC) coordinates an annual symposium, Breaking News: Clinical Trial Results in Pulmonary Medicine, to show case new results from high-profile, multicenter Phase II and Phase III clinical trials that are likely to have an immediate impact on patient care and the results published in high profile journals.

Final selection of the trials for the session will be based on pre-evaluation of the key results by an International Conference Committee (ICC) sub-committee that includes the ICC Co-Chairs and additional ICC members with clinical trials expertise as needed. All members of the ICC sub-committee will be bound by a non-disclosure agreement between ATS and the submitting organization.

Assessment of Trial Submissions for Clinical Trial Session

As part of this process, organizers of eligible trials are required to submit a form that provides a brief description of the trial and pertinent information about primary and associated outcomes. The submissions contain information to identify trials of sufficient interest and scope to be included in this high-profile symposium.

Criteria for Trial Evaluation

  1. The trial addresses an important clinical question or knowledge gap that is relevant to pulmonary, critical care and/or sleep medicine.
  2. The multicenter trial design is unbiased and sufficiently powered to discriminate clinically significant effects between groups.
  3. The trial leaders are recognized experts in their fields.
  4. The primary and supporting outcomes are clinically important and will lead to practice change.
  5. The main results of the trial will be available in time for presentation at the ATS conference in May.
  6. The results of this trial will be of significant interest to ATS Conference attendees.
  7. There is no redundancy between trials submitted for consideration.
