Meet the 2026 Awardee: Lahouaria Hadri, PhD

Lahouaria Hadri, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Pharmacological Sciences and Medicine, Cardiology Division, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is a recognized investigator whose research program is focused on defining the cellular, molecular, and epigenetic mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and pulmonary vascular diseases, with a particular emphasis on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), heart failure, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Her work integrates rigorous basic science with translational strategies to identify novel therapeutic targets and advance gene-based and epigenetic interventions for severe cardiopulmonary disorders. Dr. Hadri earned her PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology from the University of Paris XI, Faculty of Pharmacy in Châtenay-Malabry, France. She completed advanced postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where she developed expertise in cardiovascular signaling, gene therapy, and chromatin remodeling. She joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2007 and has since established an independent, multidisciplinary research program bridging pharmacology, molecular cardiology, and pulmonary vascular biology. Her research contributions have been supported by competitive funding from the National Institutes of Health, as well as the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association. Dr. Hadri’s work has helped elucidate critical roles for epigenetic and chromatin-based regulation, and calcium handling proteins in pulmonary vascular remodeling and fibrosis, offering new conceptual frameworks for therapeutic intervention. She has published extensively in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, and her work is widely cited across the fields of cardiovascular biology, pulmonary hypertension, and translational gene therapy. Through sustained scientific productivity, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and mentorship, Dr. Hadri has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing innovative, mechanism-driven therapies for complex cardiopulmonary diseases. Her body of work reflects the hallmark impact, leadership, and trajectory of a mid-career investigator driving progress in translational vascular biology.

Description

This award will be given to one individual with a promising career trajectory who has made outstanding scientific contributions relevant to the understanding of the vascular basis of lung disease, including basic science at the level of the cell and molecular biology, lung vascular physiology, translational biology, or clinical medicine. Awardees will be presented with a framed certificate at the annual PC Membership Meeting during the ATS International Conference.

Criteria

  • Must be within 7 years from the start of first faculty appointment/lectureship at the time of submission
  • Submission of a complete nomination package including 1) letters of support from 2 different members of the PC assembly describing the candidate’s contributions, potential, and why the award is appropriate; 2) the candidate’s curriculum vitae and 3) a copy of an abstract that will be presented at the ATS meeting on which the candidate is first or senior author.
  • Must be a PC Assembly primary member
